Design-led installs · Charleswood, Tuxedo & River Heights

Heating built for −40, engineered for the other eleven months too.

We design and install cold-climate heat pump and high-efficiency systems for Winnipeg homes. Every quote starts with a full heat-loss model of your house — not a guess from the square footage on the listing.

  • Full CSA F280 heat-loss modelling
  • Cold-climate systems rated to −30
  • Efficiency Manitoba registered contractor

What we do

Flat-rate pricing, quoted before any work starts.

Cold-climate heat pumps

from $9,800

Modern cold-climate units hold useful output well below −25, paired with a gas furnace that takes over at the extreme. It is the single biggest change in prairie home heating in thirty years.

  • Dual-fuel design — heat pump plus gas backup
  • Modelled switchover point specific to your house
  • Handles cooling in July on the same equipment

Home heat-loss assessment

Free estimate

A two-hour visit that produces an actual model of your home's heat loss, room by room. This is what separates a system that works from one that short-cycles for fifteen years.

  • CSA F280 room-by-room calculation
  • Duct static pressure and airflow testing
  • Written report you keep, whoever you hire

High-efficiency furnaces

from $5,600

When a heat pump isn't the right answer, we install modulating high-efficiency gas equipment sized to the model — usually smaller than what you were quoted elsewhere.

  • Modulating and two-stage units, 96–98% AFUE
  • Right-sized, which is nearly always smaller
  • Venting and combustion air brought to current code

Ventilation & air quality

from $240

HRV design, balancing and replacement. A tight Winnipeg house needs its ventilation commissioned properly, and almost none of them ever were.

  • HRV balancing with a flow hood, not by ear
  • Fixes winter condensation and stale air
  • Media filtration and humidifier integration

In-floor & hydronic systems

Free estimate

Radiant design for additions, garages and new builds, plus service on existing hydronic systems in older River Heights homes.

  • Radiant design and zoning
  • Combi-boiler and condensing boiler installs
  • Garage and shop heating

Comfort service plan

from $289

Two scheduled visits a year plus an after-hours support line through the winter for clients whose systems we installed or took over.

  • Spring and fall visits, fully documented
  • After-hours winter support line
  • Parts and labour discounts on anything out of warranty

Why homeowners call us back

01

We model the house before we quote it

Most Winnipeg furnaces are one to two sizes too large because they were sized from a rule of thumb. Oversized equipment short-cycles, wears out early, and leaves cold rooms cold. The modelling is the work.

02

Cold-climate heat pumps actually work here

The objection is always the same — heat pumps don't work at −40. Correct, which is why we design dual-fuel: the heat pump carries the shoulder season and the gas furnace takes the deep cold. Most of your heating hours are not at −40.

03

You keep the report either way

The assessment produces a document that belongs to you, with the numbers in it. Take it to another contractor and compare. We're comfortable being compared on the modelling.

04

Registered for the rebate programs

Efficiency Manitoba incentives require a registered contractor and correct paperwork. We handle the submission as part of the install rather than handing you a form.

Efficiency Manitoba incentives, handled properly

The larger rebates require a registered contractor, correct equipment specification and paperwork filed in the right order. Missing any of those is why homeowners get declined. We manage the whole submission.

  • Cold-climate heat pump incentives
  • High-efficiency furnace and boiler rebates
  • Financing structured against projected energy savings

What Winnipeg says

Verified Google reviews
Three companies quoted a furnace by looking at the old one's label. Alison spent two hours measuring and came back with a report showing our house needed considerably less than what we had. The new system is quieter and our January gas bill dropped by about a third.
Peter & Anne L. · Tuxedo · September 2025
We went dual-fuel heat pump last fall and I was skeptical. It ran on the heat pump into November, the furnace picked up in the deep cold exactly like she said it would, and the shoulder-season savings are real. Also nice not needing separate AC.
Meagan R. · Bridgwater · January 2026
Back bedroom had been ten degrees colder than the rest of the house for six years. Two contractors told me to add a space heater. Prairie Comfort tested the duct static, found the problem, and fixed it in an afternoon.

Straight answers

Do heat pumps genuinely work in a Winnipeg winter?

A cold-climate unit produces useful heat well below −25, and we pair it with a gas furnace that takes over at the switchover point we calculate for your home. The heat pump covers the majority of your heating hours; the furnace covers the handful of extreme days. You are not betting the winter on it.

What does the home assessment cost?

Nothing if you proceed with us, and it's credited if you don't hire us but come back later. You keep the written report regardless.

Why is your quoted furnace smaller than everyone else's?

Because it's calculated rather than assumed. Oversizing is the default in this trade — it's the safe guess for the installer. It costs you in short-cycling, comfort and equipment life.

Do you do emergency repairs?

For clients on our service plan, yes, through a winter after-hours line. We're a design-and-install shop first, so if you have no heat right now and we've never met, an emergency-focused company will get to you faster and we'll say so honestly on the phone.

How long does an install take?

A straightforward furnace replacement is one day. A dual-fuel heat pump system is typically two, occasionally three if the electrical needs upgrading. We give you the schedule in writing before we start.
